Every year a theme is chosen for World Cancer Day. This year’s theme is “Close the Care Gap: Everyone Deserves Access to Cancer Care”. With the help of this theme, emphasis has been laid on ensuring that all cancer patients get the opportunity to get treatment easily. Patients from backward countries and economically weaker countries are often not able to get better cancer treatment. Therefore, this theme has been chosen to bridge this gap. Its sub-theme is, “Together We Challenge Dos in Power”. With the help of this sub-theme, emphasis has been placed on the accountability of leaders to provide resources to eliminate cancer.
What is the history of World Cancer Day?
The history of World Cancer Day is not very old. In the year 1999, a proposal to celebrate this day was made at the World Summit Against Cancer, Paris. After this, World Cancer Day was celebrated for the first time on 4 February in the year 2000. The purpose behind celebrating this day is to fight cancer together with all the countries of the world and give their full cooperation in eradicating this deadly disease. The main goal of celebrating this day is to promote research and care related to this disease.
